Watershed Academy Workshop, August 6th -7th
Become part of a partnership between the Monterey Bay National
Marine Sanctuary & local public school and private enrichment
programs. The Watershed Academy provides students with the opportunity
to experience meaningful hands-on field and in-class watershed
and ocean science activities through the use of local scientists
and experts.
The 5th-8th grade program includes a year-long, field-tested
activity guide with bilingual classroom and field activities addressing
district and state standards, including science, mathematics, visual
and performing arts and English language development.
This workshop
is for teachers and youth leaders and will provide participants
with the tools, resources and support to integrate locally relevant,
hands-on watershed and ocean science in public education and extended
learning programs.
This training consists of:
- A 2-day summer course at Elkhorn
Slough Reserve which can be taken for CEU credits
- A 1-day follow-up
workshop mid-year
- Participants will also meet local experts
involved in watershed restoration and water quality efforts.
- Each teacher will receive exportable curriculum materials and
MBNMS staff support during the following academic year.
- Transportation
and lodging are not provided, but lunches will.
