Watershed Academy Workshop, August 6th -7th

Become part of a partnership between the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary & local public school and private enrichment programs. The Watershed Academy provides students with the opportunity to experience meaningful hands-on field and in-class watershed and ocean science activities through the use of local scientists and experts.

The 5th-8th grade program includes a year-long, field-tested activity guide with bilingual classroom and field activities addressing district and state standards, including science, mathematics, visual and performing arts and English language development.

This workshop is for teachers and youth leaders and will provide participants with the tools, resources and support to integrate locally relevant, hands-on watershed and ocean science in public education and extended learning programs.

This training consists of:

  • A 2-day summer course at Elkhorn Slough Reserve which can be taken for CEU credits
  • A 1-day follow-up workshop mid-year
  • Participants will also meet local experts involved in watershed restoration and water quality efforts.
  • Each teacher will receive exportable curriculum materials and MBNMS staff support during the following academic year.
  • Transportation and lodging are not provided, but lunches will.
