  Programs & Resources Related to Resource Management Issues  

 

 

 

 

TeamOCEAN Kayaker Program
Volunteers learn the basics of kayaking and are trained as naturalists to educate other kayakers about the sanctuary and promote respectful wildlife viewing.

The Monterey Bay Sanctuary Citizen Watershed Monitoring Network
A consortium of approximately 20 volunteer citizen groups who monitor the health of watersheds flowing into sanctuary.

Snapshot Day
An annual water quality monitoring event designed to increase information and public awareness about water quality issues affecting sanctuary watersheds.

Urban Watch
Volunteers collect urban runoff water samples during the dry weather months from selected storm drains and analyze for contaminants.

First Flush
An annual volunteer monitoring event occurring during the first major storm of the season to characterize “first flush” storm water runoff flowing into the sanctuary.

Threatened and Thriving Poster Series

A natural history series of six beautiful original art posters depicting a pair of “threatened and thriving” species with information about each.

Responsibly Watching California's Marine Wildlife: Handbook for Ocean Users (1.5MB PDF)
A handbook providing ocean users with information about laws pertaining to California’s marine wildlife as well as responsible viewing and stewardship principles.

Water Quality Protection Program
A sanctuary partnership of 25 public and private groups dedicated to protecting and enhancing water quality in the sanctuary and its watersheds.

Resource Management Issues
Information about sanctuary resource management issues including beach closures, coastal armoring, cruise ships, desalination, invasive species, vessel traffic and more.

Joint Management Plan Review
A new management plan for the sanctuary identifies strategies to address a wide range of resource management issues including coastal development, ecosystem protection, water quality, wildlife disturbance and more.
