Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Dive Team
The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary has an active dive team and is part of NOAA's Dive Program. The Sanctuary's dive team consists of a Divemaster and four Working Divers. In addition, research divers certified through the University of California (Santa Cruz) and the California State University (Moss Landing Marine Laboratories) may also, participate in NOAA diving operations under reciprocal diving agreements. Additionally, individuals who are certified as "observational divers" may dive with the Sanctuary dive team up to 6 times per year.

The Sanctuary's diver team participates in a variety of work related projects at least once each month. Most of the diving activities include: subtidal monitoring surveys (Big Creek Fish Reserve, the Great American Fish Count, the Oceanic Society benthic surveys, etc.), underwater photography and video projects, inspection of shipwrecks, search and recovery activities and historical site investigations. These dives are generally conducted from shore or from different vessels, such as the Sanctuary's patrol boat (SHARKCAT) and NOAA research vessels (RV McARTHUR).
